An Idea from Mr Carnochan in 2018

Dumfries and Galloway is a vast rural area which boasts a fantastic but somewhat hidden talented group of people within the area with a passion for all things music.

The region lacks a central organisation to highlight all aspects of our passionate people in all musical sectors, from underground DJs to metal band vocalists.

The ideology of the Sleek Sounds Collective was to bring together everyone who has a passion for both music and promoting and advancing the scene in Dumfries and Galloway and further afield with a wide range of supporting projects within the collective, from Live Streams such as #intheden with Mark Charles, to small grants to support up and coming artists on their musical journey.

Passionate people will be  required to drive this project forward in a positive way – with such a massive scope the Sleek Sounds Collective aimed to have local specialists in different genres of Music, Photographers, Sound Equipment, Marketing, Graphic Design, Fundraising, Venue Hire, Event Sourcing, and more.

The collective will operate as one big family locally – so for example should a bedroom DJ be interested in learning more, they can look to the collective for projects like #intheden or move towards community radio, or event speak with supportive local venues and people willing to help with equipment hire to move and grow in a positive way!

The same applies when it comes to established musicians, the collective will be a place where they can look for free advice on marketing locally and further afield, brand ideas, recording studios, and sound clashes with people they might not normally have met thanks to the collective.

The collective will be a supportive backbone for everyone who wishes to get involved, and this includes local independent venues who are looking to support music in all forms in the sense of mini events or larger.

As an example, if there was an event being held by people within the collective at a venue, we would support the event in the areas mentioned previously in forms such as poster design, local marketing, and mini grants for equipment hire or other costs such as headliner bookings.
